Dan Rosenberg and Bob Bossi have been friends for over 40 years. Bob had enjoyed drinking and learning about fine wines for several years, but when Dan moved to Livermore in 2003, he also got a "wine bug" and the future of "Dante Robere" began to take shape. Their passion for quality wine sent them on trips to several of the finest wine regions in California, often visiting their favorite small family-run wineries.
The experiences of meeting and talking to winemakers, having fun with family and friends in the small tasting rooms, and drinking fine wines, inspired their dream of standing behind their own counter and pouring their own wines.
In 2007, they planted a small Zinfandel vineyard in Dan's backyard and started making wine at home. This was not an easy job for the ex-accountant and former insurance agent, but the challenge did not deter them. They volunteered their time supporting various winemakers in the Livermore Valley to learn about winemaking processes while dreaming of turning their hobby and passion for wine and winemaking into a second profession. The idea of building a winery and a tangible company that their children could become part of and embrace someday was a powerful motivator.
The families formally agreed in 2012 to create a new winery from the ground up. They found the ideal property across the street from Sycamore Grove Park on Wetmore Road and bought the adjacent 6-acre Syrah vineyard.
Dante Robere Vineyards opened its doors at 1200 Wetmore Road in July 2015. Dan and Bob personally built a spacious modern tasting room with a rustic touch to provide enough room for visitors to enjoy their tasting experience. They also wanted a great outdoor area to take advantage of the idyllic views of the country wine and give guests a great place to just hang out, enjoy a glass of wine or two) and have a picnic.
Dante Robere Vineyards has been named after Dan and Bob. Their intention is to produce hand-crafted wine from Livermore Valley grapes, where possible, but also to obtain quality grapes from other wine-growing regions that are well suited to certain specific varieties. They craft their wines in small batches and are dedicated to making the highest quality product. Grapes are sorted by hand before entering the de-stemmer and fermented in small, hand- tended vessels. The resulting wine is aged in French, Hungarian or American oak. When ready for bottling, the wines are sampled and carefully blended to extract the best flavors and structure possible.
Their farm-grown Syrah, blended wines featuring the Syrah estate, and other Rhone varieties, such as Grenache and Mourvedre, are their well-known signature wines. They also produce stalwart varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Chardonnay, as well as more special wines such as Tempranillo, Touriga, Carignane and Barbera. Popular blends include Dante's Inferno (GSM), Roberitage (Cab/Syrah), Purgatorio (Cab/Petite Sirah), and Paradiso.
Dante Robere Vineyards provides a quiet, friendly atmosphere with award-winning wines to share with family and friends. Dan and Bob are looking forward to seeing you at the winery where they're sure you're going to enjoy your wine tasting experience.
