2. The Cheesecake Factory
1181 Locust Street, Walnut Creek, California 94596, California
The story of the Cheesecake Factory starts with Evelyn Overton, who found a recipe in the newspaper that would inspire her “Original” Cheesecake. Everyone loved it so much and she decided to open up a small store herself due to how popular her cheesecakes became but eventually gave this dream up after starting two children on their own. She continued baking at home for restaurants while raising them and years later when David was 24 he got his mother back into making cakes again as they rented out an old bakery building which is where The Original Detroit Chocolate Cream Cheese Cake Recipe came about-named by just locals because before now no one knew what "The Original" actually referred today!
When Evelyn and her husband Oscar packed up all of their belongings to move from San Francisco to Los Angeles, they did not have much hope for the future. Having raised four children on a modest income during a time when women were expected to stay at home with the kids until they reached adulthood, it was difficult enough deciding what business venture would be right for them in such an unfamiliar place as LA. But after struggling through opening The Cheesecake Factory Bakery (and selling cheesecakes) first out of necessity and then because people began taking notice - thanks largely due to one person's help who became like family over those two years-Evelyn soon found herself baking more than 20 varieties which she also sold wholesale across town!
In 1978, with their son David’s foresight and intuition, the Overton family opened a restaurant to showcase his mother's selection of cheesecakes. Somehow he just knew that guests would enjoy a restaurant with an extensive dessert menu- The Cheesecake Factory was born! And it really worked out: today there are more than 200 branches around the world sharing this commitment for quality and spirit of innovation!
