Castle Rock Park
1700 Castle Rock Rd, Walnut Creek, CA 94598-5100
About The Park
In a scenic canyon along the Pine Creek in Diablo Foothills Regional Park, the Castle Rock Recreation Area is located. The area is dominated by oak forests and prominent sandstone formations.
Castle Rock has traditionally specialized in organizing picnic activities for large groups of 300 or more people, but the Regional Park District of East Bay began refurbishing the park in 2007, both for use in drops and picnics. Remember that there is no shuttle service to the park from the front gate. Take a wagon with your heavy or bulky things. The drive to the pool from the front gate is a quarter mile, on average a six-minute walk. A half mile walk to the pool area from the Orchard Staging Area.
The Mt. Diablo State Park and Walnut Creek are bordered by Diablo Regional Park and Castle Rock Park, providing access to over 18,000 acres of public land.
Annual Closure Notice
The annual shut-down area for peregrine falcons is in effect from 1 February to 31 July. It encompasses the whole area of rock formation east of the Stage Road road. All routes to the area are unofficial and do not appear on the park map. Search for signage that indicates what areas are closed. All officially named trails are available and do not impact this protected area throughout the park.
Park Activities
The public can now use basketball courts, horseshoe pits, volleyball courts, softball fields and daily picnic areas. There are four places with a capacity of 100 and 3 with a capacity of 50. Other picnic sites on a first-come, first-service basis are open.
Swimming
The pool complex has a pool and deck areas measuring 30 meters by 70 meters. The building is also entirely accessible to people with disabilities, including the toilet and a lift to the pool. Swimming is only allowed if lifeguards are in operation. (Pool access fee.)
Swim Facilities Capacity Notice
Once swimming pool capacity has been reached, no new public safety entries will be allowed for the remainder of the day (or at the discretion of the Park Supervisor).
